Road Transportation

Road transport between different cities in Iran is done in two ways: bus and taxi.

In Iran, buses run from every center of the province to other provinces. The cheapest way to travel between cities is by bus. Iran’s intercity buses are classified into two (types ordinary and VIP). VIP buses have comfortable wide seats. 

The Taxi in Iran is very cheap. So many citizens prefer to use a taxi in the city. There are a few different types of taxis in Iran. Shared taxis, which are green or yellow, are common for locals in Iran, but they can be confusing for travelers.

Iranian taxis travel with four passengers. One passenger in the front seat and three passengers in the back. Many taxis are equipped with a taximeter system. This means you have to pay for the distance you are traveling in a taxi. However, some taxis charge you according to the taxis’ organization and often take passengers from one place to another certain route. If you want to be the only taxi passenger, you have to pay more.

Intercity taxis are another choice that you can use to travel from one city to another. These taxis are safe and operate under the supervision of a taxi organization. Taxis are more expensive than buses.

Subway

Only some cities in Iran are equipped with metro lines. Tehran, Isfahan, Tabriz, Mashhad, Karaj, and Shiraz are some of the cities where the metro is operating. Many cities will also be equipped with subway lines shortly.

 The Subway gives you the fastest reach to almost any location in Tehran, you just need to find out which line is the best for your destination, and if you need to change your train figure out on which station you must move to another line. Plus, on the boards on the trains, the names of the stations are in Farsi only but in the stations and on this map the English name is available. Keep in mind that the subway during the rush hours 7-9 am, and 4-7 pm are very crowded. In Tehran, metro lines are connected to Mehrabad Airport as well as Imam Khomeini Airport and all bus terminals.
