Seasons and Weather in Qeshm

The climate in Qeshm is hot and humid most of the year. So you can expect warm and dry summers and, cool, wet winters.

Autumn and winter in Qeshm

For this reason, the seasons of winter and autumn are considered to be the best time to visit Qeshm. Because most of Qeshm’s attractions are natural phenomena and they are located in open space and Sightseeing is much more pleasurable when it’s a little milder. But the seawater may be a little cold for swimming, but the water temperature is not so low that you cannot put your foot in the water. In these seasons, the chances of seeing beautiful dolphins in the Persian Gulf are higher, especially in the early morning. These times of the year also tend to be a little quieter than the summer months as kids are at school and so fewer families travel. But in these seasons, because of the cold seawater, you cannot go swimming and diving.

As I mentioned before, most of Qeshm’s attractions are natural phenomena and, they are located in open space, you cannot enjoy seeing them in hot weather. So it is better to consider summer as the best time to travel to Qeshm Island to shop and enjoy sea recreation. If you are interested in seeing eagle-nosed turtles, late May is the best time.

Festivals and Events in Qeshm

An interesting part of the trip is always getting to know the people and culture of a land. Every corner of the vast land of Iran has its own fascinating culture. Qeshm is one of the most gorgeous islands in Iran. People making a living through fishing, shipbuilding, and trading. Many of their traditional rituals are related to the sea.

 

Nowruz-e Sayad(Fishermen’s New Year Ceremony)

The most important event of this island is the celebration of Nowruz-e Sayad (a ceremony for the beginning of the fishing season). That is held in one day in late July. On this day, fishermen do not go fishing and celebrate the day by wearing new local clothes and dancing with local music. They painting the doors and palm trees as a sign to start the new season of fishing, swimming with new clothes, various competitions, and local games, etc.


Palm and Date Palm Celebration

The traditional celebration of palms and dates is another interesting event in Qeshm, which is held in the last days of September for several days. The south of Iran, especially in Qeshm, is full of beautiful palm groves. Part of the people of Qeshm makes their living through these trees. One of the most popular customs of the people of Qeshm Island is related to the palm and date celebration, where gardeners sell their fresh dates and offer the products they make from dates. Other products such as baskets, slippers, etc. that made from palm trees are sold in this celebration. They also show a part of the culture of the people of Qeshm Island, performing traditional music and various games.


Celebration of shrimp

Shrimp celebration, like Sayad Nowruz celebration, has no purpose other than thanksgiving and gratitude. This celebration is usually held on the 14th and 15th of November, at the end of the fishing season. On this day, handicraft exhibitions, various competitions, local music, and other entertaining programs are held in the beach park of Qeshm Free Zone.

Shark pudding is one of the most delicious local dishes made with shark meat. They cook shark meat with some salt and turmeric. Then fried shredded shark meat with onion, coriander, dill, tomato sauce, and dried lime powder.
